Music Education at Clayton State University
The Bachelor of Music (Music Education)* degree is a comprehensive program that leads to Georgia K-12 teacher certification in music. Students may select either a choral/vocal track or instrumental track in this program.

Assessment
Effectiveness assessment of teaching and learning is an important component of instruction at Clayton State University. The faculty strives to measure and document teaching effectiveness in an effort to support and improve student academic achievement and to ensure that our courses support the approved Learning Outcomes for our music programs.
Clayton State University is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACSCOC) and is an accredited institutional member of the National Association of Schools of Music (NASM). All education programs at Clayton State University have been approved by the Georgia Professional Standards Commission (GaPSC) and are accredited by the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP), formerly known as NCATE.
Learning effectiveness in the music program is assessed through the study of:

Music Education Concentration Outcomes
- Hear, identify and manipulate with fluency in sound and notation the elements of music such as rhythm, melody, harmony, structure, timbre, and texture
- Demonstrate proficiency in solo and collaborative performance including technical competency, sight-reading, interpretive skill and artistic self-expression
- Think, speak and write clearly and effectively about music
- Develop teaching and coaching skills appropriate to the performance medium and in the context of the elementary and secondary classroom
